Michigan’s tax and traceability stack changed again on January 1, 2026. Here’s where the rules actually stand, sourced from the regulator’s own pages:
A 24% wholesale tax landed January 1, 2026.
It sits on the wholesale price at the producer-to-retailer tier, in addition to the 10% retail excise — and it belongs in your cost basis, not on a receipt. Software that flattens it into a retail-tier percentage mis-reports it.

The register math is a three-layer stack.
10% MRE excise on the adult-use sales price, plus 6% sales tax, with medical sales excluded from the excise entirely. The lane split has to be enforced at the register, not reconstructed at filing time.
