Maine’s tax and traceability stack changed again on January 1, 2026. Here’s where the rules actually stand, sourced from the state’s own pages:
The cannabis sales tax jumped to 14% on January 1, 2026.
It applies in lieu of the 5.5% general rate on cannabis lines — not stacked on top of it — and non-cannabis goods on the same ticket still take 5.5%. A register that flattens both onto one rate mis-charges the cart.

Adult-use runs on Metrc; medical runs on neither.
Metrc is mandatory for adult-use under the new five-year contract, but the OCP keeps no patient registry and medical has no state track-and-trace — so medical is a separate lane built on captured written certifications, not an e-verify call.
